Flotilla 72 leadership for 2012

Roy Vandermolen and Paul Custance

Flotilla Commander Roy Vandermolen, Vice Flotilla Commander Paul Custance

U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 72, based in Salt Lake City, UT, provides a variety of Coast Guard services for the people of Utah, including safety patrols, aquatic event safety, search and rescue, public education, and vessel safety examinations, often in cooperation and coordination with the Utah Department of Natural Resources.  All of these services are provided at no cost to the boating public.

While we do not perform law enforcement or national defense activities, when needed we may provide support for local/state/federal law enforcement agencies or active duty Coast Guard units.  We also participate in joint training exercises with local and state law enforcement agencies.

Our primary areas of operation include Jordanelle Reservoir, Deer Creek Reservoir, Strawberry Reservoir, and Utah Lake.  On occasion we perform various activities on Lake Powell, and starting in 2012 we will expand our operations to include safety patrols and vessel safety examinations on Fish Lake.

Flotilla 72 meets at 1900 hours (7pm) on the second Monday of each month.  Meetings are normally held at the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) building at 1594 West North Temple in Salt Lake City.  Our meetings are open to the public, and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.

We are always on the lookout for people who want to add purpose and public service to their lives through volunteering.  If you are interested in learning more about the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, what it does, what it can do for you, and how to become part of it, we encourage you to attend one of our meetings, view the USCG Auxiliary website, orcontact usfor more information.  No experience is necessary, and membership is open to all persons age 17 or older.
